 IN THE GARDEN
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

Matthew 26:39

 The Great Zion Window Mystery

The great Zion UCC mystery regarding the window in the sanctuary portraying Jesus praying in the garden has been SOLVED!!! The mystery was solved by Tim Schultz and the late Olga Schwengel. As I asked around for weeks what people knew about the window one statement was made repeatedly. “It’s too bad that Olga Schwengel isn’t still alive because she could tell us”. Well, Olga has told us. Tim Schultz’s great aunt Helen (Wheaton) Smith gave Tim one of Olga’s notebooks. In it Tim found where Olga had made notes about the stained glass side windows and the stained glass above the alter. (click here to see a scanned copy of Olga's notes)The “Loyal Workers” which was a women’s group were involved in getting the side stained glass windows installed in 1942. They had the picture of Christ in the garden installed in 1943. The Loyal Workers merged with the Ladies Aid in 1944 to form the Women’s Guild. Many thanks to all of you that patiently answered all my questions over the past couple of months regarding the “mystery” window and other church history. Special thanks to Tim Schultz, for digging through Olga’s notes to finally solve the mystery. Most of all, a big thank you to Olga Schwengel, albeit posthumously, for keeping such detailed copious notes. If we find more information, I will keep you all posted.

Do You Ever Wonder Where The Beautiful Music You Hear Playing in Town Comes From?

The music comes from Zion UCC's carillon.  The carillon was installed in 1978 in memory of former pastor Rev. A. A. Susott.  The music is pre-recorded and plays at noon and 6:00 p.m.

1 It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 to proclaim your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,

3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.

 Psalm 92:1-3
